After completing my Business Administration degree from Los Andes University in Colombia, I went to Incarnate Word University, in San Antonio (Texas)  to study International Business for my MBA degree. Being encapsulated by the American dream, I wanted to achieve something grand. That’s why I have worked for multiple companies since 2003 and finally became the Vice President of Credits and Collections of a leading company in the United States. My dreams were shattered when I was diagnosed with a tumor and was forced to retire from my job to recover speedily. 

After realizing how precarious my situation was, I decided to fulfill two long-held goals: move back to my native Colombia and train as a Zumba® Instructor. Since that time, I’ve been giving my full attention to realizing my ambition of starting a business in my home country so that I can help people get jobs doing what they love and apply what I learned in school. This life, despite its lack of financial security, has become ideal for me.

A Latin beat once moved my soul when I started teaching Zumba® classes. After each class, I felt energized and better than before. Each session was an invigorating experience, both mentally and physically. After trying it out, I became completely enamored with this fitness discipline. I wanted more and more of it, and there was never enough. That’s when I realized I ought to pursue this as a career.

All the happiness and vitality I felt during and after class was something I could give to others. I wanted to follow my dreams in the fitness industry and share my love for the brand with the world so that I could be a proud ambassador for my country while also introducing a modern approach to a healthy and enjoyable fitness routine. For the first time in 2011, I became known throughout Colombia for developing a promising approach to fitness & dance.

When I realized I could further my career as a Zumba® instructor, I returned to my home country. Working as a university lecturer and an independent Zumba® instructor in Colombia, I put in many hours for little pay to turn my dream Zumba® studio into a reality.

In 2011, I started the first independent Zumba® Fitness studio in Bogotá, STUDIO SOUND®, where I taught six weekly classes to an initial community of one hundred people. As a result of my consistent efforts over a decade, Studio Sound became the premier venue and hub of the field in the country, with three locations, 18 full-time employees, and 2,500+ students actively enrolled each month.

Due to the reality of the pandemic and its many repercussions, Studio Sound® shuttered its doors for good on March 12, 2020. With the help of my dedicated coworkers, we’ve started a new chapter in our company’s history by developing cutting-edge tools like Live Virtual Classes and an extensive library of Videos On Demand to ensure that our students never miss out on the fun.
My current business model, as well as Studio Sound’s, is centered on providing in-person consultations at clients’ homes, gyms, training facilities, and offices. Live and on-demand virtual sessions are also available.

My Studio Sound® team and I were the first in Colombia to provide Zumba Gold®, Zumba Sentao, Aqua Zumba®, and Zumba® Toning, intending to motivate other fitness teachers in Colombia, I hosted the country’s first Zumba® Instructor Training in 2012. It was a significant first step for Zumba® in Colombia when 45 instructors were certified in Bogota.

Back in 2012, my colleagues voted for me to represent Latin America on the ZCOM™ Community Council, and the Zumba® Home Office provided me with the necessary training. Additionally, since then I’ve had the honor of serving as mentor, guest instructor at a wide variety of prestigious institutions across the country and the world, Validator for Zumba Marketing Spanish Translations and ZumbaWear Authorized Distributor.
